Ms. Kim King - suffers from the pain of loosing a loved-one to violence and to mass-incarceration.

It was amazing! Our voices were heard! Buses, cars, and vans loaded with folks from counties of Pennsylvania most impacted by mass incarceration: Philadelphia, Allentown, Pittsburgh, Reading, Lancaster, Delco, York and Coatesville. Approximately 400 folks gathered at our State Capital Building in Harrisburg, PA to say “YES!”, there are Victims on Both Sides who’ve lost a loved one to violence and to mass incarceration. AND it was Cosponsored by powerful grass roots and non-profit groups like: Human Rights Coalition, 1Hood, Keystone Progress, Reclaim Philadelphia, ACLU of Pennsylvania, LifeLines Project, Decarcerate PA, Lancaster Stands Up, FAMM, POWER End Mass Incarceration, Amistad Law Project, and the Youth Art and Self-Empowerment Project. Astounding mothers like Ms. Kim King and Ms. Dee Dee Haw, both, lost a loved-one to murder and have a loved-one serving a LIFE sentence; but both (and others like them) are considered to be “non-victims”; therefore, have no voice concerning victims or parole, according to the head of the PA Victim’s Advocate Unit, Jennifer Storm, an award winning victims’ rights expert. She claims her victims do not want parole for the men and women serving a LIFE sentence, not ever. But on October 23rd victims who’ve felt the pain of losing a loved-one to murder showed up to have their voices heard including Bobby Harris, Rep. Dawkins, Rep. Movita Harrell and Sen. Street and along with others said, “Jennifer Storm does not speak for me”. Both Ms. Kim and Ms. Dee Dee spoke of forgiveness, healing, their journey; and that fact that they are now at peace. To hear their voices be sure to click on the link below. HRC, along with everyone at the rally, believes that a more diverse person and a person from our community (communities highest in mass-incarceration) would make a better victims’ advocate; someone who has experienced our pain, pain from both sides. We need someone who will work towards a society where healing is an option as opposed to hurt, pain, and perpetual punishment. I along with Sean Damon, Saleem Holbrook, Marcie Marra, Sandra Hill, Kim King and Ms. Dee Dee Haw delivered a letter, signed by 28 powerful groups, to Governor Wolf’s office asking him to address the very issue. Several former prisoners, who are now ministers, advocates, and educators, spoke and some simple stood their ground as prime examples of ex-offenders living their lives to right their wrongs. Later flowers were laid upon an alter along with hugs, tears, and prayers; and we spoke the names of our lost loved ones into the Universe. Parole for LIFERS! Give people a chance to atone for their wrongs. Thank you. Patricia
